Kyle - a snagged deal is only as valuable as the application you might have for it - which is why I suggested a taste test of the SDX7 cube.
Kyle, the woofers the old boys are suggesting are what you want. What I have is things that were pulled from speakers that might hold you over if the cash flow is poor. 10" Sony units with tweeter sized magnets. You are welcome to them but keep in mind they are just for now. You don't have to give them back and if they help in the meantime, I will bring them. I know you will want to talk to Dave about real woofers for the future. The CSS units are a big step above the Extremis 6.8 that were in the Boombox I brought last year and those are 10X better than what you are getting for free.
I think you could be right about that - why not try out one of the single small (1ft^3) cubes he has for demo (SDX7 and Foster plate amp)
I have 2 cubes, one black, one cherry. And there are the SDX7 stealth woofers if you want to try your own amp. And the single with the 2.1 channel plate-amp. And the no amp SDX7 cube. You are welcome to borrow (you'd have to assemble the last)

Chris - I head that EL166 MLTL last year a DIYFest. It totally blew me away. If there was a single woofer/side enclosure that I could build that got me even close to that level of bass I'd be really happy. The room really is small and I think it can be made to rumble quite easily!
You heard a pr per side in my "slightly larger" room (~250 vrs 35 m^3). 1 might well do.

Cal - Thank you for the kind offer, it feels like I am leaning towards Dave and Chris's options. I can definitely shell out for the right thing, I just can't afford to miss.
Dave - I think stereo EL166's might be the trick. I plopped it into WinISD and the default tuning gave me ~35hz tuning in a vented 30L box.
Chris - I'll have to take a closer listen to Dave's SDX7 collection when I am there. I don't think I paid them much attention last year.
The aim is to have a bit more boom when the WAF and I actually steal a few moments to watch a movie. I used the chr-Kens I built my sister in here a few times and they were nearly there in terms of bass.
Thanks for the advise you guys! The excitement builds!! 😉

I decided to take a road trip through parts of BC and AB this summer. I'll integrate that with the Vancouver Island meet. Plan on me showing up sometime Friday and take off Sunday morning or so.
I'll bring a fist full of warm beer (cooler needed!!) but what are we doing about food?

You won't starve -- if you work at it you could gain a few kilos thou. You are always welcome to bring snacks to share.

Glad to see Tom is going to be there.
Dave, have Ruth call me for what is needed for Saturday lunch and dinner. I know there's a lot of input but I like to fill in the holes as you know.
As long as you have an amp or two for the party speakers, I can help with the less important things like food and beverage. 😉
Tom, save your pennies (Canadian beer is expensive) and buy beer on the way to their place. 🙂

this year we'll be experimenting with an all plant / grain based diet
relax - all the beer and alcohol I've ever consumed starts out as some kinda grain, and you'll soon learn to luv those mushroom / quinoa / tofu / black bean mock burgers
...
just kidding
Real men don't want no stinkin' "mock burgers"!
don
I vote for real burgers from grass fed beef and veto all grain in this context.

I can live with that. 😀

since that technically includes herbal remedies as well, I'm not surprised
Hey that's the old Cal. The new Cal goes green in other ways. Been like that for a while now buddy. Not saying I don't slip up once in a while but I can't remember if last time was at last years event or not. Hmmm...

Isn't that a vegetarian burger? 🙂 I only like cows that eat other cows.

Lamburger please.
But if you want a burger it is probably BYOB. I'm sure Ruth has the menu mostly planned already. I've probably been told, but given that i don't have to worry about it, i've forgptten. Pizza on Friday night and we do know that Jesse's tradition of bring some whole sockeyes will continue (and an elk roast too)

closer to the truth than you might think - few of us really want to know what all forms of manufactured meat / dairy is fed or injected with - suffice it to say that many of them have involuntarily become carnivores if not pesticide, antibiotic and garbage recycling profit making units of production
but no further evangelizing on the subject
