There was a dipole/OB design with some full range (Jordans?) a couple of years back. Not sure if that's what Dave used.

Dave's "Franken-Creation" resembled a huge Open Baffle based on a big packing crate (for a Piano?) more than anything else. I might add that it was decidedly DIY, although it (unfortunately) lacked that final touch...APTS!*
It had, as I recall, a small shelf on each side for a small speaker to be placed.

Do you (okay, do I) have to be there to win? Did they donate only FR stuff for you crossover haters? I'm old-school and still prefer crossovers and tweeters, mids and woofers. I'm not as old school as Cal, (not sure that's possible, as far as speakers are concerned 🙂) but I haven't been bitten by the FR bug yet.
