Well, that explains why digikey doesn't discount their old stock, the way farnell does. I reform anything I buy from farnell with a star discount, as the chemistry needs a refresher. Reforming doesn't do ****-all for the elastomer seal.
I have to say, oxygen never sleeps. The quality of the rubber seal depends entirely on the quality of the rubber used initially. The amount of water will not decrease if the seal is cracked, until a few weeks of heat from use. Some ecaps come as garbage from the factory (as Apex HDTV converter from ***-mart) some last a whole year , some last 20 years. None of the organs I've bought over the years have had more than 10% good e-caps after 30 years. The Allen factory guy told organforum his brand never needs ecaps. I measured a 1980 S100 amp at 2 watts in 2019 after a sound failure the Sunday before. 29 years of an hour a week use will kill the best of them. A nineties Allen switcher supply I fixed blew a NTCR (used instead of fuse) because a e-cap went bad. I was criticized at OF for focusing on e-caps, the factory guys are alway right!
8 years on the shelf at the vendor leaves 22 years. Shame on digikey. Started as a surplus house, (I have mailers from seventies) still keeps the sleaze.
