8 Track player and Jensen XA 2100

Hi, I am new and also way behind on stereo stuff as you can see below...

I have an old under dash 8 track tape player with FM stereo I am putting in my 1965 Ford F-100 truck.

I also have a Jensen XA 2100 amplifier.

The Jensen manual shows left and right channel radio out wires have there own ground wires.
Left plus and minus----right plus and minus.


My 8 Track has a power, ground, left and right speaker wire coming out of the unit, 4 wires total.

Is there some way I can hook them together.

I have searched the web and found you cannot hook a common ground radio to a floating ground amp, correct ??

You can not connect a floating ground radio to a common ground amplifier. In your case you will be fine. Simply connect the left positive speaker wire of the 8 track unit to the left positive input of the amp. Do the same with the right channel. Now all you need to do is ground both of the negative inputs on the amplifier.

I messed up describing my setup, sorry....


The 8 Track/Radio has:

1 ground wire.
1 power wire
1 right speaker out
1 left speaker out



The amplifier has:

1 right speaker in plus
1 right speaker in minus

1 left speaker in plus
1 left speaker in minus


That means the 8 Track/Radio has a common ground and the amplifier has a floating ground ???...correct ??

That *could* mean the amp has inputs that will accept floating grounds. The negatives may also be connected inside the amp, in which case they are still common ground.

Either way, Idiot's instructions are the way to connect it.

You'll also need a switch to turn the amp on through its remote turn on wire. That can be connected to the accessory power lead (Yellow/black or solid black in 60's Fords IIRC, or can be found in the fuse box as 'Acc'), or preferrably connected by a toggle switch in series with the accesory power.

You got any 8-tracks to play in that thing? I have a few! 😱
