70v system volume problem. I don't have the control type here to relay but thought this might be simple enough to be answered without all the details.
Volume barely has a noticeable increase on settings 1-9 when set to 10 it jumps to full volume. It is my understanding that switch I have will work ok with 2 speakers but when doing a long chain the problem I described occurs. The problem I have is I need to figure out what the correct type of control for the system is and why the one I have will not work as well as explain the difference between the 2.
Without having the control in hand I have no idea where to start looking for a answer and am hoping someone with more experience will recognize the problem.
Thanks

A little more info.
I am using a bogen attenuator. I was told that dropping the db to control the is what is causing the problem but everything I read states it is the right product.
Could it be the wattage is to low? Would that give the result described? I believe the one I have is a 35w.
Is there a more suitable volume control? It is a 200w crown amp running 14 speakers at 4 ohms. everything works perfect when the volume control is bypassed and controlled at the amp.
Thanks in advance and if anyone has a good recommendation for good reading on 70v systems and troubleshooting I would appreciate it. Might save me asking some stupid questions!

Tell me do all the speakers you are using have transformers ?? Also what modle amplifier is the crown ??
I am pretty sure they have transformers based on the fact that they have volume controls on the individual speakers. Not sure the model of the amp.
ok does the amplifier have 70volt line outputs?. are there a choice of speaker outputs..
you mention the speakers are 14 x 4 ohm ???
you mention the speakers are 14 x 4 ohm ???
so why are you using the amplifier with 4 ohm setting.. would it not be best to use 70Volt line setting??????
My mistake it is the 70v line setting. We had 2 speakers that could be switched between 4 & 8 ohm that are set to 4 . has nothing to do with the amp.
Figured it out but still don't know what the problem was. Tested everything looked good, looked up the model of the volume control and it was the correct type. Tried another one of the same brand with the same results then tried another brand rated the same specs and it worked fine.Out of curiosity I threw the original control in a different system and it worked fine in that one.
Just a bad match with the speakers or amp? Anyone else have a similar situation?
I am still learning and am happy it is working but bugs me when I don't know what caused the problem!
Cheers
