Betaman,
Try this, a good read on x-over design, a 19mm tweeter is not build to do the task of an 25mm and the other way around 😉 :

And as far as swapping out the woofers for cheap ones, you'll have to match the T/S parameters pretty close for them to work in those eggs. On the crossover, sometimes less is more. PE has Piezo tweeters that go to 40khz for like 3 bucks a piece. fyi everything that I owned that said sony on it was junk.
I agree about Sony, I thought they were a pile of poo. My neighbour kept on about Sony and i kept telling him they were poo low end rubbish and no match for Linn, Rega, etc, Then he dropped a pair of SS-2BED on me and i was shocked. He really knows his stuff on the science end of things and talks in numbers all the time. Sony do and ES range that is pretty impressive £20,000 for a set of speakers... so they must know something
Cheers matey, I have located a set of Yamaha 28khs tweeters that fit right in so no mods, I am looking to change the crossovers and i am glad i came on here first as i have learnt loads... Decided to chang the dust caps on my vifa 10" so they match. saves a whole load of agro...Betaman,
