6W class D amp circuit?

I am interested in building a little mono portable speaker. I'm considering using Wolf's PC speaker design from here "PC" Layout For The Aura NS3-193-8A Photo by wolf_teeth_speaker | Photobucket
or something similar...just looking for a small enclosure that can get some decent bass.

I'd like to power the thing off of a 9v battery, or maybe just 4x AAs? Either way, I'd like it to get 6w or so. I found this amp on parts express that can handle 4.5-25volts, and outputs around 6w Class-AB 10W Mono Power Amplifier Kit TDA2030 | 320-336.
The only problem is that amp is a class AB, and I would like to get a class D so it doesn't run down the battery.

Does anyone have any tried and true circuits that would work on a 9v battery and output at least 5w?
 
You could go with a PAM8403 which outputs 3 watts. An USB battery would power it just fine. I'm not aware of any good class D 9v amps, but if there are any they would run out of juice very quickly with one 9V or 4 AA's. If you think 3 watts is too low, 12v would be your way to go.
 
Isn't the Aura NS3 around 80dB/W/m in sensitivity and 8 ohms? And you want an amp that runs on 5V'ish for about 2.5W output? Well, you're certainly not going to disturb any neighbours with a speaker system that is going to output about 70dB average music at maximum level, or just about equal to normal speaking voice at less than 1 meter.
 
You're right, however my real interest is in an amp that can be run off a battery and be portable. I was hoping to pair it with some decent full range speakers...I guess if I wanted more output, an alternative to low power and light weight is what, an SLA battery? Or an RC car li-po battery?
 
PE has a handful of applicable stereo class D boards around 20 bucks. One of them uses the TPA3110 which is a good match for a solid 12 volt supply. You could probably get full life out of 8 AA batteries with 2 8 Ohm speakers and an extra 4700u cap on the B+ and a reasonable volume setting. The "9V" thing certainly wont fly. Only bothersome thing about the PE 3110 board is it apparently has no output filter inductors. If you must stay mono, that may limit your off the shelf solutions even further. It would make no sense to idle an extra amp unused in such a power limited setup, but if you can deal with larger, two of same speaker is more efficient than one. A small 12V SLA battery is the most cost effective option, it's just not the smallest or lightest.

Maybe Faital 3FE22 or 3FE25, or some fostex is better for the speakers.
