Up to you; it isn't exactly critical. Just make sure that it doesn't pass so much current that it produces too much excess heat. Size it appropriately, and the potential divider will also be an effective bleeder.

With cathode followers, the load is simply moved to the cathode circuit, and the signal taken off between the cathode and the load.
