iv got these absolute beasts, twin loaded 15'' which iv been told are 6th order band pass. easc one is 1.8m wide and over a meter high. what drivers will a. survive and b. gve the best sound?
any help ?
any help ?
a.
Any driver will survive unless you bring them in overexcursion by giving too much power for the size of the enclosure.
b.
6th order bandpass is not an enclosure that have good SQ usually. For the best sound, I would recommend the AV15 from Acoustic Elegance or the Avalanche 15 from Ascendant Audio. These drivers might be hard to get for you, you could look at Peerless XXLS series which is quite good.

You could of course also simulate what would perform best. You know the volumes/tunings?

re drivers
Drivers that give at least a 3db. increase in efficiency are used in these otherwise if no efficiency increase is involved it is just a very volume inefficient way of making a low pass filter, they have a Qt in the .4-.5 range and a low fs. higher Qt drivers can be fed from an amplifier having a current feedback increased output impedance.
There are many woofers around suitable for these, the Peavy black widow low rider 18inch driver can put out an average level of around 130db. in the 40-80 Hz. band in a double ported bandpass box but it is considerably smaller than the one you have.
