Hi all.

I just finish TriodeDick's Bill. Sounds fantastic 🙂 But i'm thinking if there is a way to take away the ugly tube 6sn7 😉
I'm thinking if there is a 6sn7 subminature.. it dosen't need to be a twin triode..i can use 2 tube's (one for each channel 🙂 ). And of course it must sound as good as the 6sn7 😀

I was just going to say, but you beat me to the punch.. Just don't exceed its rather low plate voltage ratings without some thought as leakage across the mica supports can lead to some rather interesting noises in some although not all instances. It is a reasonably good sounding tube IMLE.. (I have bunch waiting for the next project.)

IMHO The 6SN7 despite its size is pretty hard to beat, and I don't think the 6021 is in quite the same league. Besides we like big tubes, right?! 😛

In the NOS dept., the 7N7 beats the 6SN7. 😀 It contains the exact same "guts" as the 6SN7s made by Sylvania at the Emporia, PA, plant. However, the price is more reasonable.

Seriously, the triode in the 6SN7 and its close relations is REVERED for very good reason. With NOS 6SN7 prices in the stratosphere, it's nice that 2 decent variants, EH and reissue TungSol, are in production at New Sensor's Saratov, Russia, plant.

Speaking of nice dual triodes, has anyone tried/heard the 6C8G. On paper it looks very good, but in practice I don't know how it will sound with one of the grids being the top cap. I'm going to try one as a driver in a little SE. It may need a follower as it doesn't look too strong in the drive department. I have a ton of B+ available (over 400v) so a CCS plate load sounds like an idea.
Can't beat the retro looks of the bottle though 🙂
Best part is that they are still pretty cheap.

I scored a bunch of NOS 5 star Sylvania 5977 on eBay for significantly less this morning from someone who appears to be a trustworthy seller. Looking forward to doing something bizarre with them. I'm thinking super tiny line stage and an equally diminutive amp for my desktop at some point. I'll use some really small PP transformers I have for this task, and maybe a switcher for power. It's one of those things that I should have done long ago, and that may yet wait years for implementation.. :spin:
