6L6 used as a.....diode?

I'm not going to be as negative as some.
Why not make the 6L6 a pass tube as if it was a variable power supply.
There are loads of historical circuits for using a 6L6, KT66, EL34 for the pass element.

Only issues I see are the total current it can supply and if the insulation of the 6.3v heater winding is good enough.
