Long ago, 604e's were my first hi-fi speakers. Best sound I ever heard out of them was when I put one in a bass bin which if IIRC was designed by Cal Perkins (well known designer at Mackie) long ago when Cal was at Swanson Sound. Again IIRC, the bin was called an 1104, and had a flare rate that looked to be about the same as that of the 604 coaxial horn. Unfortunately the 604 was too deep and stuck out the back of the cabinet, but it really sounded good for a 604.

The other thing I recall about 604 speakers is that they were used in "Big Red" studio monitors along with a passive radiator. The thing I really liked about those monitors was the cells were taken out of the 604 multicellular horn. Much lower distortion to my ears with the open horn, although dispersion suffered some.
