hey.. just picked up an RCA sub at goodwill. Lots of port chuffing! Doesn't go very low, but is rated at 200 watts and has two nice 6.5 inch 100 watt 6 ohm woofers that I salvaged from it.
Any way to design an improved decent little sub out of these?
I don't have much info about them other than they say 50-100 watt on them ( 50 rms, 100 max probably), they say E A H on the backs of the drivers, the sattelite woofers say the same thing.
Whats the lowest usable responce I could get out of a dual 6.5" driver sub?

so how about opposing drivers in a small sealed box, sunfire style? Might like to make a sweet portable 2.1 system out of this.

the lowest useable output depends very much on the T/S parameters.
But as a guide to what can be achieved if they have been optimised for bass extension.
My tiny Acoustic Energy AE1s have a 5inch driver with a 90mm cone serving as mid bass. They go down very deep when the amps preceding it have wideband characteristic.
Of course my down side is lack of loud grunt, but for most TV/DVD soundtracks they are surprisingly capable.
A pair of 6.5inch drivers could, with careful set up, be very satisfying.
The gain in size reduction from isobaric loading for a 6.5inch driver does not seem attractive to me.

Is opposing isobaric? I'm talking like the sunfire subs and klipsch promedia style subs.
Actually, The klipsch we have uses 6.5 inch or 7 inch woofers and its 170 watts. Its not the best sub in the world but its ok.

I did a similar project with 2 6.5" I did a ported box and in house tuned to 31Hz(measured higher)

Port was about 11.5" long 3.5"x1.25" and I used some stuffing. Those numbers might not match up exactly but they are approximate.
I found it to be quite good(for the $4.50 invested) but did require some equalization above the tuning frequency. My 6.5"'s had a Fs of about 60Hz and were likely OAM car speakers. I never did a full set of measurements on the drivers.
