5F6A via Mechanical Design

So as I mentioned, I'm building my own 5F6A from scratch. Found the schematic online, ordered all the parts through various people and places and am going to model everything up in Solidworks. Well the parts started to come in, so I started the models up today.

If anyone would like copies of the CAD files, just let me know. All parts are to scale to the parts that I've gotten in. I've been measuring everything with calipers. When I get more modeled, I'll reply in here saying that more components have been added.

All the parts should be in this week (except the transformers), so I'm hoping to get everything modeled up in a week or two, and then start the full assembly models.

I won't post pics of the individual components, but I will post pics of the full assembly of the chassis, and completed cab when they're done. I'll also post finished product.
 
Nice work so far!

I wish I had that kind of skill with drafting programs! I am still stuck in MS paint and a pencil & paper.


5F6A is one of my favorite circuits, I have built a good number of them the past few years, very rewarding tweed for sure!
 
Well it's been a week since any updates... Went out of town for the weekend so I got a little behind.

Wood came in and so did the transformers yesterday. So I have about 11-12 more parts to model (POT's, Switches, Transformers, Relay).

I decided to start with the board layout.. Here it is so far. I have the parts places, and started bending the leads on the components. hoping to get the rest of the leads bent tomorrow night or Friday

So I'm looking to get PCB's made up now... If I do them, I'd need to do a minimum quantity of like 10-15 boards... Is there any interest in buying just a bare PCB for like $25-$30 shipped. These would be 18" x 4" boards. All holes would be plated so there would be no need for turrets or eyelets.

Why bother? Just buy up the PCB's out of reissue Bassmans that people replaced in favor of eyelet boards. 😉

Circuit Board is complete. It's looking like I'm going to have to do eyelets instead of plated through hole. Also going to use a Red Fiber Board.

Also, I started doing the chassis and mounting some of the components. This is where they stand. These aren't the renderings, just what they look at while I work with them. You can see the image quality between a rendering (above) and what the board looks like non-rendered (last pic)

Do you think it's OK to have the primary leads of the OPT so close to the low level input circuitry? I know I've had to shield the input stages from the secondary of the OPT to prevent oscillation. I have many many guitar amplifiers (repairs and builds) under my belt and have yet to see a layout like yours. Might need some shielding with this particular layout.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess when the wiring's done, if needed I'll swap it out. I'll know where to start looking now if I hear stuff 🙂
