5e3 Volume Interaction Problem

Hi,

I juste built a 5E3 replica following exactly the original layout. It turns out that there is no interaction between the normal and bright channel. Even more, when I connect the guitar on the normal channel, and bring the bright pot to 12 the volume drops dramatically.

I checked that the bright input is properly connected to the correct part of the circuit.

Any idea about how to solve this?

You mean following the original schematic or diagram, the layout has nothing to do with the way it sounds. You say the volume drops but does it get "brighter" with more highs ? note that the interaction is mostly due to the common cathode in the first double triode, if you use separate resistors you'll have two fully independent channels.

Funny there is not more of a reply to this, the 5E3 is one of the more popular amps made. Yes the volume would drop with the bright pot on 12. When you turn it up all the way the output of the bright pot triode is across the input. The output impedance of the triode is only in the 40k ohm range and loads down the output of the normal triode. So the volume controls are interacting.
