Basically everything is a derivative work in one way or another. Getting ideas, thoughts and other peoples input is good, but copying an existing design is not. The whole idea is to learn.
I hate to say if you learned anything from school coming up with a simple design should be easy.

JRDgreat,
If you go to the Delta-Audio.com website you will see that Jens has made a very nice pcb for the Leach amplifier. The gerber files are on the website and you have your choice of 6 output devices or 10 per channel. I have a nice amp built with these boards running 70 volt rails. I think your should be able to get the power you need into 4 ohms with this layout.
There is a great deal of information here at diy Audio on this amp.
good luck Tad
