Hi,
Does anyone know what fullrange driver this is? Diameter is 5". Looks like a Coral or Foster, but I can't find any specific model that looks like it.
Only writing I see on the back is 1520102 and YCM-1 on the magnet.
It's currently mounted in a 12 by 8 by 8" sealed cabinet, but would like to find out if there are better designs for it.
Thanks in advance.

Okay so we are likely looking at the standard 4” driver. I think the Sony is a round frame with the slotted basket. They usually stamped their magnet frame but perhaps this is an OEM installation.
Made by Coral. Came in Monarch and Calrad enclosures, one cabinet had light cones, one dark. Very nice if they don’t have a hardened surround. They make a good midTweeter if they do.

Cal, I think that it's a 4.5" driver. I noticed that the Sony drivers made by Coral have round frames but the frame is a bit different and 4" in diameter.
Dave, do you have any idea which Coral model it could be?
Surrounds are fine, and would like to use them fullrange in a better cabinet.

sorry always on the lookout for good fullrange's
The Monarch drivers I have are holey basket Corals and do not have a gasket.Made by Coral. Came in Monarch and Calrad enclosures,
The Monarchs that come with twin holey basket 16Ω Corals, is a real find. Dirt cheap everytime i found them
The cone and motor are similar, the basket more normal in this 5”.

These are 8 ohm.
Midrange and treble are very good but bass is lacking compared to my Fostex ff125wk in BR enclosures.
Could it be that the 12 by 8 by 8" sealed cabinet is not appropriate for these? Or stiff surrounds like Dave mentioned?

Surround is rock hard, and only get very little movement on the cone when pushing it.
Surround seems to be some sort of fiber material.

We still haven’t figured out how to fix that. Cal’s holey baskets did as well, they ended up as a superb midrange in a 3-way.
With the stiff surround it is very hard to get bottom out of them.

Even with supple surrounds, the FF125K in reflex would likely eclipse these drivers - bass wise - in a sealed configuration. I once had a similar but unrelated driver with stiff fabric surrounds, never found the secret sauce to fix that either!
Oops - my last post has a typo, I meant FF125WK, as flo777 mentioned. I'm used to type FF125K as I have a pair. 🙂
Happy new year!
Thanks for everyone's opinions.
These Coral drivers seem to have a more forward midrange compared to the Fostex ff125wk which is more neutral.
Highs are also more detailed on 125wk.
Can anyone suggest any surrounds appropriate for these? Would foam or rubber work, or it needs be some sort of treated cloth?

They are treated cloth. It is the treatment that has gone hard. Any pliable surround would likely improve them. An inverted suround would be prefered but that might be hard to find. I will be interested in the results if you go ahead with that.
