I know it's a bit late to give you my opinion but...better late than never. I've started reading SSM2160 datasheet, but I'm affraid I've never used an Atmel uc before...so I can't help you with it for now. As far as I can see with that picture (some letters can't be seen correctly when I use too much zoom), the data bus is correctly wired (pull-ups included) and it seems you are going to use a 3 wire series bus. If you have already made it work, post your results please and if you can, attach a picture with higher resolution. Regards.

I forgot to tell you that I'm writting my own software for a TDA7437 tone/volume... control that uses I2C instead of a 3 wire series bus. I have already used a 3 wire bus with an LCD display using an USB microcontroller, sending orders through a PC software. My I2C soft is working fine by know but I still have to learn how the TDA7437 works to control it properly. If you have any questions about those buses may be I can help, allthough I'm not an expert...I just made them work! As soon as I finish my current project with the TDA7437 I will start another one, similar as yours (not sure about those IC's because in my country I'm not sure if they are available) ...so any information will help me to make a good decision. Greetings.
