You can 'dead-bug' an 8 pin dip. Bend four leads straight out and solder into the board. Tack short wires on the other and solder into the board.
Thank you Mr. DJK I was trying to find the guy a inline 9 pin so he could just replace the defective one he has.
Hi Joe,
Japanese parts vendors sell them too. Your friend should have no trouble getting that part. djk's suggestion is good in a pinch.
Sometimes they route power throught the chip (B+), you may have to jumper if this is the case.

Hi Chris,
I realize that djk's suggestion is good in a pinch. I was just trying to find a plug and play part for the guy that was looking for an exact replacement. I cannot seem to find a NTE replacement or anything else listed. Yes, you could use either a quad or a dual with some jumpers and provisions made for the extra sections.

Hi Joe,
Try http://pacificsemi.com/search.php (found it by searching NJM4558S) or some more local suppliers. Very common with Japanese service networks, just contact a warranty shop for one of them.

Edit: another one but out of stock http://www.mcminone.com/search.asp?keyword=njm4558s&btnSubmit.x=0&btnSubmit.y=0&btnSubmit=GO
I'll pretend I didn't see that.I cannot seem to find a NTE replacement or anything else listed.

Cobra2,
Clever, very clever!
You should tie pins 1&2 - 7&8, then 3&5 to V+. Unused amps make for trouble.

Hi poobah,
You mean pins 1 to 2, 6 to 7 then 3 and 5 to ground.
I don't like tying inputs to supplies.

Hey Robert!,
You were very close. You would have got it right if you were sticking the chip in yourself. Well, you would have figured out sooner or later.
Besides, what you wrote sounded really good. 😉

Kiss my op-amp Joe, I am blind, but not as old as SY.
And where you tie off the positive inputs might depend on the chip. There are some op-amps that actually power-down sections depending on V common mode at the inputs. There are even amps where the output will toggle (reverse) if you mess the inputs 'round enough.

Hi poobah,
You could find some NJM4559 or NJM4560 types for Joe.
Joe,
Yank apart most pieces of Japanese audio gear and you will find some NJM4558's. Some may even be the "S" version (sip). Those small Fostex or Tascam mixer - cassette things were full of them.

Hi poobah,
Look in za old broken unit. In dar, you find da gold.
To heck with brokers. They want you to buy a ton, not onesy twosy.
The guys who normally carry Japanese semi's will have them, as will every shop in the warranty network. It's one of the most common parts out there.
