I was building a diyparadice simple el84 amp but it didn't come out working right. I think a large part of it was that the PS was putting out more then 100V more then it should and I also think that one of the output transformers were bad. So now I need to figgure out what to due with the parts I have in it so I didn't waste all my money (not that big a deal I have less then $50 in it). I think that I would like to make a very simple guitar amp but I need some sort of schematic. I have el 84 and 12ax7 tubes to use but I don't mind using some other power tubes. If someone has any other ideas on how to use these parts please let me know.
Did the PS put out 400V under load or without load?
If it's with no load, I expect some drop in voltage, and that will still be usable for EL84 (given cathode bias to burn some excess B+ voltage). If it's with load, consider a 6V6 push-pull. Newer 6V6 can handle quite a lot of voltage (es. JJ/Tesla).
