does anyone know if a reflector and condensor are needed for one of the ushio bulbs and a 15" screen?
ok, thanks...
i had a core/coil ballast and one of the huge globe bulbs and was having problems with an even light and such, i just got an electronic ballast for cheap and ordered a ushio bulb, so i'm going to work on a newer nicer enclosure with this new setup

Are you sure a reflector's needed? I mean, I've heard most reflectors only add about 30% more brightness. I've also heard the ushio is plenty bright without. But for all I know, you're right. Just asking.
you have read right but if you dont use a reflector for the extra 30% of light why buy a 400 w if your not going to use all its light seems pointless to me.
thanks for the replies guys, now....what's the best reflector for a ushio light? and something i can either get locally here in louisiana or order for fairly cheap
im using a Stainless steel half sphere moulds i got offline but shiping wasnt cheap may find one in your town heres where i got it so you have an idea http://www.dr.ca/ click on staninless steel and its the 8th one down
The best reflector for the Ushio is the new Pro Reflector from LumenLabs..
It's $15 and adds about 25% more brightness than a Norpro or Ikea reflector.

Yes I'm using it right now.
I had the Ikea reflector first. With the Pro Reflector the increase in brightness was very noticeable and the light was more uniform on the screen also. Stainless steel reflectors seem to make "hot spots" and the Pro Reflector evens the light out better while increasing brightness a lot.
