40 Volt panel light replacement

The power on panel light in my preamp has gone. It's an encapsulated 'bulb' of some type inside a non-replaceable 5/16th diameter threaded chromed shell with retaining nut behind the panel. It is fed directly from a 40 volt DC supply line. Can someone please suggest either a direct 40V replacement (I have no idea what kind of light this is) or would it be okay to use a LED and resistor in place of the original. Looked at Mouser's site and I'm plainly baffled but that's not anything new. Thanks, Mike.

Hi sofaspud (great handle) ... many many thanks for the info and for giving me specifics which is a GREAT help. The 'shell' looks like an ordinary chrome plated through panel bulb carrier (with nut behind) where you could replace a blown bulb, but instead it's filled with hard yellowish resin, sort of encapsulated if you get what I mean. I thought it's be a simple and quick bulb change but oh well 🙁 🙁 Best regards, Mike.
