The VIFA TC11WG49 is a nice little woofer. It is Reasonably priced also. The performances are good with smooth freq response to 8000 Hz.

I say it represent what mid-fi is about. Good performance, down to earth technology, good price.

Audiotechnology drivers are expensive everywhere. You're lucky if there is no official sales-representative in your country because in this case you can buy from them directly (there is none for Switzerland fortunately 😎 ) which can make quite a difference.

OK, maybe not 8000 Hz but I have some measurements from quite a few samples (we use them a lot at my job) and the rolloff begin at 6500 Hz but is smooth and the response is 7 db down at 8000 hz AND with no cone breakup at all.

response from 250 to 7500 is +- 4 db

Gary, that's good news. I new something was wrong with those measurements. I use an Audigy, and if I did those measurements in 96khz sampling rate it might be the cause. Audigy has a cruel roll off (I found out yesterday) starting at 2khz. The response is 5db at 15khz when using 96khz sampling.. 😱

Adire is developing an OEM monster 4" with extra long Xmax. I think the customer is Acoustic Visions (don't quote me). This was shown at the CES show earlier this year.

Just for clarification: The 4" being developed is a "full-range" driver. The woofer being developed is a 6" XBL2 based design known as the Extremis 6 and will also be carried by Creative Sound Solutions (due out this spring).
