4 wires to 1 RCA tail ??

Hey everyone,

I've recently been trying to make my own RCA adapter that will go from the harness for my maxima [metra harness] to the preamps in the back of my clarion deck.

The deck has 2 sets of preamps - 1 RCA set for front and 1 for back.

So I decapitate 4 RCA tails = 2 sets of RCA's.

I then go to wire them directly to the speaker wires on the Metra harness and then I remember "Oh **** ... there's a + and - for each of the 4 speakers.... meaning there's 8 wires which is double the 4 wires from a set of RCA's [+ and - in each]

So at this point I'm wondering do I just wire FRONT RIGHT negative and FRONT LEFT negative onto the RCA negative that'll go in the front set of RCA's from the deck and do the same all around for positive as well 😕

My logic is saying "you'll lose stereo imaging if you do that" but then again this is my first time making my own adapter too so where do I go from here ??

any help is appreciated - thanks!

It's a Nissan-Bose system, the speakers are amplified.

One + and one - per RCA (the shield is the -), wired to one + and one - from the wiring harness, to yield one RCA per speaker (Bose amplifier)

Does the deck have a sub output?

All is well ... well , maybe not all LOL

my lack of sleep assisted in missing the pre-amps for the rear ...

All four RCA's are on ...

And yes it does have a sub pre-out as well as an aux out...

... now im scratching my head at the fact that on:

metra nissan harness it lists off:
12v Batt/memory = yellow

clairion lists off:
Memory back up lead = Yellow [connect directly to battery] with a 15A fuse.

So am I going directly to the battery or to the yellow wire on the Metra Nissan harness ??

There's another one listed on the clarion paper:

Bus power lead = yellow [connect directly to battery] 3A fuse ...

battery ???

Also I dont have a phone so does it matter if I leave the brown "phone mute" wires unconnected ??

I haven't installed a deck in almost 10 years not to mention the 1 that I did was a kenwood in a 92 geo prizm so this is throwing me for a loop:smash:

That does not really make sense, the 15A is likely the full power for the HU and 3A the memory. I'd say the yellow factory wire is 12v all the time for memory (a guess, test it) and should be good for the memory of new HU just make sure it does not shut off at starting of car. Factory HU usually have a larger power wire but may turn off with key, larger wire is likely good for more power, but many say to run new HUs to battery. On the other hand if you are not using speaker outs on new HU it should not take much power I'd think.

Don't worry about the fuse rating, you're not going to be using the internal power amp anyway.

Two yellow Clarion leads: 15A and 3A.

Just connect the two yellow Clarion leads together to the yellow Metra harness lead.

Don't worry about the brown lead, just make sure it's insulated and tie it up out of the way.

Check out the "amp canceller" function to turn off the internal amp.
