4 channel amplifier build

Yeah. This is indeed a good one. I've got it connected to my main system now. This is the best I've heard these speakers. And I've run many amps. I would describe it as sounding fast and easy.

As I've said, I wouldn't say this amp is audiophile-grade, due to slightly visible crossover distortion at high frequencies (although essentially inaudible) and ever so slight hum with no output. But you have to get your ear next to the speaker to hear it.

Currently enjoying 96kHz, 24bit flacs.

I need to come back here because I've put the amplifier through a bit, or should I say I've put my speakers through a bit with it? 🙂

I'm blown away by this one. The quality is fantastic, and I've pushed it a bit. I've run many amplifiers, and this one reaches the same or more SPL I have achieved with a 120W with the same speakers without any distortion or strain on the speakers (120W causes noticeable strain). And the massive heatsinks do not warm up.

I haven't done the bi-amplification thing as properly as is possible, but I'd say it's pretty close. I have an active filter, and I've left the passive crossovers in. I know it would be better with the passive's out, but I also don't need to tune the active crossover or amplifier gains. The LF is about -3dB at 2kHz and the HF is about -3dB at about 3kHz. The passive crossovers can do the rest, and the tweeter network can dampen the power as necessary. Phase response is unaffected by the active filters because the phase only starts changing before/after the passive cutoffs. And the active filters are 1st order.

So there is the benefit of bandwidth limiting in addition to double the power.

I can wholeheartedly recommend bi-amping. It's better than I ever expected.

I only need the bass to be filled in. I'm currently trying to do a subwoofer build. I have high hopes, but low expectations (I'm not intending that as a pun). For now, the 8" I have is doing well, but it needs a bit more oomph.

Thank you! I've progressed quite a bit now and I'm running a stereo 180 W into a pair of DIY speakers now. The 4 channel described here is a good one, but the SNR and design effort of my 180 W is better. The construction has also come quite a way. 🙂 I can't link it now, but it's described in my 135 W 8 / 270 W 4 thread.
