you retrofitted? whoa thats GREAT! i hope mine will work. Hows the picture quality? please feel free to put some more info about your project. I'd love to know how much you spent for bulb and ballast and whatever else you are willing to tell.

Thank You.
Jimmy

Yes, its working. But I only have the 70W bulb that came with the spotlight. Still, its brighter than the original 400W halogen lamp.
I cant say if its bright enough for projection, I haven't modified my 15" TFT yet.
Total cost so far:
OHP 9550 : 75 euro
Ballast+70W MQI double ended+fittings : 20 euro
Benq 15" LCD (350:1,250cd,30ms) : 331 euro ( brand new 🙁 )

So far I'm happy everything worked out. The 70W lamp was just too big to fit between the reflector&condensor so I used my dremel tool to cut a small part of the bracket holding the reflector mirror. Now everything fits, the new lamp is in the same position as the old lamp was in and the distribution of the light seems to be ok.

im very happy to hear that your project is a success this gives me inspiration:nod: it seems to me you got a GREAT deal on your HQI system by any chance ...do you have a site i can get it for that price 😀 i saw a 250 watter for 39 euro's but im not sure if they ship to the U.S...

Thanks for posting your results 🙂

I just got back from searchin on german ebay and they have GREaT deals!! but how can we contact the sellers if they do not speak english. and how can we pay them. this would be a GREAT idea if we could get past these barriers. RASPAC i'd like to talk to you IM me at AIM.

Hehe, "IM at AIM", whats that?
I dont have any chat prg's at the mom. And dont ask me to install MSN, all it does is reset my computer at random 🙁

Oh, btw, the language shouldn't be a problem. Most of the Germans know a little English, and if not, I (or a German diyaudio member like Rainer) can translate it for you.
Most of the 'will ship to Germany only' ads will ship abroad when asked. (Within Europe, money transfer) dunno about the US though.

I dont have my LCD converted yet. Maybe the 150W MH is bright enough for me, there is lots of light comming out already with the 70W MH bulb.
I just finished converting the OHP to MH, a (sorry, bad) picture:
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

hi rapsac
your OHP like mine

I believe it can work if the screen is not too big.congratulate

A little off topic but still relevant I think... http://www.projec.com/PRODUIT/LAMPE/2broches.html

When you go here look at the T6 based lamps, the EVD
64663 HLX is the spec lamp for the 3M 9550 (400 watts, 36 volts, 3500K, 50 hour burn time)

Does anyone know what the differance is to the 64664 HLX
(400 watts, 36 volts, 3500K, 150 hour burn time)

I have a 9550 and am very happy with it (big jump up from my crappy Elmo 360 watt piece of junk) I will be modding this unit to accept a MH lamp or other such long burn lamp, but need to take a little time to recover from my previous expenses for the projector. So in the meantime I'd like to get a longer burn from a lamp that will fit the existing gear.

Any ideas?

If you dont want to mod your ohp yet it wont work; the bulb has a different size, so your light wont be centered.
If i remember correctly the socket for the std T6 bulbs cannot be lowered any further.
Better wait and get a MH setup.
(2nd hand from ebay?, wont be more expensive than the new 150hr bulb)
