hey-Hey!!!,
Pick something relatively simple. PP GU81m running a kV and a half in PP comes to mind. 350W of Class A...🙂
cheers,
Douglas

A most entertaining thread.... and I love the pic posted of the large 211 amp!
Also grew up in the 60's tube era... my bible was a 1958 ARRL handbook (still have it). Living in NJ was great... large AM transmitters everywhere, large RADAR dishes at camp Evans, Fort Monmouth (US ARMY electronics center) and Atkinson & Smith up the street with tons of JAN surplus from them.... used to buy NOS tubes... 50 cents for small ones and a dollar for bigger stuff, like 807s and 808s. I would spend hours up in the surplus room (until Dad finally dragged me out).
And had a basement (miss these in Florida) with tons of parts (compliments of Dad and his previous employer)... got to fire up lots of big tubes.. thousands of volts, etc... and yes, managed to knock my a** across the basement a couple times too (oscilloscope project).
Anyway, the initial project posted here is no beginner project. If FRANK10 is still looking here, maybe an 813 SE amp for starters... still available, relatively inexpensive and you can get iron to support it... better yet there are already a few designs out there.... and it won't be cheap to build either. If he still insists on the insane, check out Surplus Sales... I think they have a 3CX3000 variant for a mere $750. http://www.surplussales.com/

So now, I wonder what happened to Frank10? did he abandon the project? Is he now plucking harps in HT Heaven? or did he go for a more sane amp project?
Just curious.....🙂

Not sure. Hope he didn't get put off.. And that a-la-carte amp (above) is cool beans. Very special!
Mr. Triatic said:211 is really a big tube.. [/B]
Is it? I consider the 211 as the minimum size for a preamp 😀 😀
