Hello, I am in the process of building myself a 300B and in the point to purchase the tube sockets - some chassis mount and some PCB mount.
I have noticed on Internet examples where people used shock proof plates for their designs and I am not very clear if these are needed and what are they for.
The ones I am looking at are here - only type I could find:
1PC Vacuum Tube Shock Proof Tube Socket Mounting Plate 4PIN 5PIN 6PIN 7PIN 8PIN | eBay
Can you please help me decide if I should use such plates or just have only holes in chassis to mount direct the socket. If the advice will be for the latest (socket directly on the chassis) do I need some venting holes?
THANKS

What is your purpose with this?
Vibration dampening?
Most of power tube -in power stage- are less sensitive to vibration (signal are several orders of magnitude larger than distortion due to the vibration).
If you use large power tube in preamp, the effect is more greater (most of 300Bs almost unusable in this situation).
Without rubber grommets this mounting plate do nothing ... with mini grommets (see third picture) do almost nothing.
Try such vibration dampers:
vibration dampers - Searched phrase | Electronic components. Distributor, online shop – Transfer Multisort Elektronik | Vibration Dampers | Wide choice of elements and components, electronic parts / TME

I tried doing shock mount tubes, didn't like it afterwards. The tube is too "loosie goosie" for my taste when its supported by mere rubber, especially when changing tubes. When pulling the old tube out its stretching up, pushing in the tube same thing. In aftermath I would have rather simply gave the whole Amp Sorbothane feet in the softest grade 30 durometers. Then all the tubes are given some isolation from vibration! And changing tubes isn't like a taffy pull at the county fair. Sorbothane is cheap enough, even cheaper are felt furniture pads but those are not tuned for vibration like a 30 duro sorbothane foot.

And all tubes appreciate venting holes, and the parts in the Amp will last longer with good venting. 🙂

Hello --- Maybe I sound stupid but I am new into the tube amp DIY world.
I have seen examples of using these plates but I have no idea if I need them.
I would rather build with sockets assembled directly to the chassis for a clean look and add some holes around in circle, for good venting.
From where is the source of these vibrations and do I really need to take into account these vibrations via some special design such these plates or dampers...etc?
Thanks
Turn the music up, and ideally everything in the room I'll vibrate. I use vibration dampening mounts on amps I build but I dont bother on power amps. The signal is big, powerful, and hard to disturb once it has reached your power stage. Do whatever looks clean and fits the space.
Shock mounts usually go on the FIRST tube of the chain. The microphone, tape, or phono preamp. Later stages have higher signal levels and the same shock will be less disturbing.
I really can't imagine a 300B "needs" a shock mount. And the high heat will not be good for the rubber.

Thanks guys for all the good pieces of advice. Based on your replies i have decided to skip on the shock plates.
Regarding venting, I have seen Audio Note and one other DIY project with holes around the tubes buy also some Chinese 300B's sold on Amazon w/o these hole, just clean hole to install the tubes.
Which way should I go? Do some holes around the main hole of the tube?
Thanks.
