This started off as a way to use a nice pair of Peerless tweeters (811827, one of the last Danish made Peerless), and a pile of scavenged chipboard that was cluttering up my shed.
What to pair the tweeters with???: was looking at SB 4" drivers, but there were too many to chose from, (now I'd go for the paper version), came across Beyma MC115s at a good price, and never having used domes thought I'd give them a go.
For woofers I decided on a pair/side of Wavecor WF160WA02 which I'd used previously, nice response, efficient, & cheap... also small for a 6", NLA except possible in small qtys in Aus.
Finished the cabs some months ago, but they had to brew in my shed while I finished a drum Kit restoration, to give me room to move... by the time I got to them the extreme heat had shrunk my precision routing, so had to go at them again with a Dremel.
Finally got the wiring finished last week end, & assembled & initial tweak today

initial listening test: Dome was too forward. a SYNRTA scan showed a hump ~ 1Khz, otherwise reasonably flat; using a smaller cap to feed the dome (12uF instead of 18) bought it into line. Still more forward (detailed) than my other system, but wonderful imaging. Sounds fantastic on jazz, double bass is beautiful. However, those small woofers don't do visceral kick drum, which I want from rock tracks.
Listening tests ongoing, might drop the mids/tweeters a tad
(note the jealous older brother behind, & my daughter's vinyl filing system...)

hmmm... passed the Rammstein test, plenty of detail even with a complex mix at volume, seems that modern kick drums sound great, it's only old classic rock kick drum like led zep, early sabbath that wimp out on the kick. Still, would like a pair of 15" woofers to go with these 🙂
Knocked back the dome by just over a dB, quick listen sounds more balanced... an excuse for an extended listening session this weekend.....
