Hello,
I would like to show you a project I'm just working on. It started with an idea for bass improvement and eventually turned into a design of an entire system.
The subs are already made but not tested for possible improvements. Firstly I have to build the monitor units which contain the amps (Hypex FA 253).
The monitor driver will be Sica 5.5 C 1.5 CP. The sub driver is Peerless by Tymphany SLS-P830669
The concept aims to improve my current monitoring capabilities in my studio of 5x5 meter in near field range by moderate room level.
Usually I use monitors on stands with a distance of 1m to the front wall. So I will build the speakers into stands. The stand will also contain the amp, which makes a free positioning of the subwoofers more convenient. The subwoofers can also stand within the bottom area of the stand for listening in midfield and to blend into the design of pseudo single speaker.

The enclosures are already made now. Today I added a stiffening frame into the enclosure to avoid resonance.
The stand/side cover consist of two layers. The inside layers have grooves for the wires from the amp compartment into the enclosure.
I'm waiting for the amps to check out on which position to access the wires.
I could need some recommendations for further damping measurements. It's a 4 Liter sealed enclosure.

Unorthodox design... so will be interesting to see how it turns out 👍😉
I love the concept, especially the choice of drivers. This system should sound exceptional for its cost if intended driver bandwidth is chosen carefully. The Sica coax is a fabulous driver, capable of exceptional linearity and off axis performance. Looking forward to the progress on this...
Enclosure dampening is still in progress.

The System is ready for setup. I still have to buy a measurement microphone and borrow a windows 10 notebook for the Hypex software.
The picture shows the environment and how I want to use the system there.

You might consider buying a windows based system. The filters will need adjusting over time
I made a basic Hypex crossover setup without measurement. I choose the recommended crossover points between woofer and tweeter of Sica.
The crossover between subwoofer and coax is 90Hz. I reduced the volume of the tweeter about -7 dB and the woofer about -3 dB to gain a little more bass from the subwoofer, since the SPL is still high enough in near field.
I still need to buy a windows notebook, measurement microphone and an interface to make some serious tunings and learn anything about the process.
The sound of the system is very unusual to me since I never heard such a concept before. the bass is present but isn't overwhelming. The signal of the monitors is right in the head as if you wear headphones. I was listening different songs yesterday. Peter Gabriel with Cate Bush sound very awesome.
Cate sounds so clear and Peter so crisp and the ending with the bass line is very enjoyable. I'm pretty sure there are still points for corrections but those speaker are potentially the most suitable I ever had.
