3 phase output stage?

I pondered that thought a long time ago. If you think about it, it isn't useful. I'm sure that fancy DSP processing could split an audio signal into 3 or more phase components, and each component could be amplified individually, but how would you put the amplified signals back together again. 3 phase transformers exist, but they are 3 phase in - 3 phase out.

A speaker is basically a single phase motor, there is only one voice coil. It needs to be driven by a single phase source. Maybe the question that needs to be asked is, why are there no speakers with 3 phase motor systems in them.

scopeboy, good link, but maybe a bit over my analog head. Thank you tubelab, its good to know that I'm not crazy and I can stop worrying. So a three phase electrodynamic speaker, eh.... I'll see what someone much more talented than myself can do about that
