You might try contacting the US distributor:
BIRKELBACH
Also, I noticed that Professional plastics has a datasheet for the 3.5 micron film...perhaps they might be worth a call.

A sample pack available here…sure hope there is a misplaced decimal point in that price.
They may be able to provide some suggestions on sourcing.

Yea unfortunately that decimal is likely in the "right" place 😉. The prices charged for some of these niche markets....ouch

Sent email asking about the price. Heres the response...
Understand your concern, most of our customers are university professors who only need small piece for R&D. the cost is mainly labor cost to cut the film and put them together.
The film is made by DuPont Teijin and it takes several months to get them.
We do have small rolls of 2.5 um and 4 um thick PEN film but with narrower width:
2.5 um PEN, 80 mm W x 3000 m Length, on 75 mm ID core -- $800 + shipping
4.0 um PEN, 75 mm width, >3,000 m long, on 75 mm ID core -- $600
4.0 um thick, 315 mm width, > 3 kg: $1500 (3” ID core)
4.9 um thick, 315 mm width, 1.3 kg (6” ID core): $1000
Best Regards

That's how sellers at ebay work. Buy a 3000 m roll for $1000 and sell 6 m pieces for $30. Sometimes people @ capacitor plants are reasonable and may give out leftovers from big rolls.
Ask the guy which University bought this and call professor(s) himself.
P.S. That's what google has to say.
