Situation:
My cheap laptop only has one line out (and doubles as headphones, software asks you which you want).
So Im stuck with one stereo line out. Of course a cheap splitter allows me to have two lines out... but I want ONE of them to be mono. Now obviously if I plug a stereo to mono cable in that splitter, its going to back feed the other splitter and make that ALSO mono.
Is there anyway to build a cable with one stereo, and one mono output? Im proficient at soldering... Im imagining there are some resistors I could use to do this.. but I have no clue what it would be, or the schimatic.
Thanks!

If you connect a 12k Resistor to Left out and the same to Right out, connect them together for your mono out and you will still have access to the stereo pair as the output impedance is pretty low.
Thanks! Whats a good website to get these from?
Also, Im pretty sure it would be fine. but more on this situation..
Ive created a very long 3.5mm jack to RCA stereo outs using a 4 wire speaker cable (my computer setup is far away from my home stereo setup). I have my right left and ground... I was hoping to create the mono channel, and use that fourth wire to carry mono.. could they all share the same ground? I dont see why not.. but since im asking questions.
Thanks!
