And degraded on-axis performance, because baffle step is around 2.5Khz and you're going to get cancellation unless you move the drivers closer to the center of the mid-woofer at which point you get reflections off its cone.

This is just a matter of EQ.

You go to Pluto+ for low end; Pluto has about 25% the woofer area as Orion. Add sub and it is still <50%.

Bass envelope, this is also just EQ:

Measured monopole and dipole room responses #444

The dipole preserves fine musical texture farther into the room....

What principle as at work here? For driver size and spacing with Pluto in conjunction with crossover frequency, wavefront becomes coherent in inches, for Orion and similar ilk wavefront isn't coherent until more than 3ft. back, and then only in narrow vertical axis.

Please point me to tutorial on your driver displacement math.

Andrew

Have you validated your modeling tool with real measurements?

Andrew,

Was this comment meant for me? If so, the answer is no since I haven't built the speaker yet. The image I had posted is just a rendition for the purpose of getting feedback on the design before I start making it (which I've got - thank you - keep it comin'😛)

What about the spacing between the drivers? I had located the tweeter as close to the midrange as possible but the distance is still such that the recommended crossover frequency is 1-2 kHz, using the one-wavelength rule, which is lower than I would like. OTOH, I have read that some people who have experimented with different distances between tweeter and mid sometime prefer a longer distance than this recommended....
