hey guys, this is a weird request I'm sure. i am looking for the most natural 3-4" full range, something with great vocals and smooth highs, plays relatively loud and will not be used for any bass, will crossover probably 200-250hz and above. these will be used in one of my cars, will be using a 13 watt pure tube class a amp on them. mid bass in the door and a single sub in the rear.
want accurate sound, price not an issue, thoughts?
thanks

I bought these for a TL project and was very happy with the sound Dynavox LY401F 4" Full-Range Driver
They are pretty efficient and they work reasonably well with my SE 2a3 amp. 13 watts should drive them really nicely.

Or 3fe25 is less expensive if only need to use in a car door.
You might look at the Alpine driver designed as an OEM for a Jeep. It won the listening test in round 5 of the Subjective Blind tests.

I would assume a Peerless TC/G9xxxx or Scan 8424 would be relatively high on the list of contenders, although 'natural', 'great', smooth' & 'accurate' rather depend on how they're technically defined. For e.g., an absolute flat on-axis response, nice in theory, is not necessarily percieved in and of itself as the most accurate or preferable, hence the variety of curves, notably the Brüel & Kjær, some of Harman's subsequent work, and various response shaping that came out of the BBC's work. It also depends on how far off-axis you're going to be from them; tonal signature is heavily influenced by the power-response at the listening position, and more particularly (assuming direct radiators in a standard room setup as a nominal baseline) over an approximate 30 degree axis where significant deviations can have a disproportionate impact on this aspect of reproduction.

I would have to say Audible Physics hands down. The nz3 ALBe is very highly regarded in the competition audio world as the best most accurate SQ full range driver ever built. google search will bring up lots of info about them and the company.
Also if you are interested I was just pulling items out of the closet today to sell and I'm getting rid of a pair of Audible Physics Ram 2A 2" tweeters, Audible Physics nz3 ALBe 3" full range & Hybrid Audio Technology Legatia L6SE mid basses. HAT is also a very highly regarded car audio brand.
If you are interested PM me and I can send you pics. everything is BNIB I was going to do a sound quality build just don't have the time.

Another plug for the Scan Speak 10F 8424G00, as price is not an issue.
It is one of the contenders in the Subjective Blind Comparisons XRK linked to...
Marvelous driver, excellent measurements. I use them as ambience speakers for my array project. It doesn't need a lot of enclosure volume, which I assume is a plus for your application.

I can't find that driver on what appears to be the Audible Physics website, and having perused the latter & the dealer link above (where it appears to be sold out), I can't find any technical data on the products either.
I'm currently down with the fell Ludolphus palsy so I may be missing something though. And to be sure, I'm not the brightest either.

All i can offer is my experience with 3-4” drivers.
The 3” would be Alpair 5.2 and Fostex FF85wk. We have used both of these in WAWs with good results.
The Alpair is a tad smoother but the single suspension micght be an issue in the car, as well as the big bezel might make it difficult to fit into a car. The Mentioned Scan 10F is good but the cheaper one is the one with some top.Scanspeak Discovery 10F/8414G-10 4" Full Range: Madisound Speaker Components
I haven’t heard the latter but the linked one is reslly s midrange — i’d pick the 1st 2 mantioned over it.
The VIFA TC9 is crap as far as i’m concerned, for $10 more the TG9 is quite decent.
My Faitals are on the way, i have boxes for them.
There are lots of 4’ to look at, my personal favorite size. The MA Alpair 7ms should be killer (i have only heard the larger one) and there is the A7.3 and Pluvia7HD which are perhaps a notch down. And the more affordable ones can be good too (CHN70 & CHR70 are acquired tastes). The 4” Fostex FF105wk is not quite as clean as the FF85 but goes lower.
No 3” is going to be all that sensitive, 4s a bit better, given that cone area is one of the factors in overall sensitivity.

I emailed the manufacture for the info, they are pretty good at returning emails I will post the data as soon as I receive it.
you would pay $660 for car speakers? you'r nutz
People pay thousands of dollars for interconnects, now that's nutz! 🙂
True. These things are relative however. I wouldn't fork out £600 (near enough now that our currency is on the rocks) for a pair of 3in drive units sans any information on them whatsoever though. Only a yoghurt would contemplate something so imbecilic.

For most Bentley, Bugatti, etc... owners, $600 is spare change... 😱
For me, I think it's silly to spend that much on a car or accessories, but then again, I was not born into that kind of world.

Hi, here's an excellent resource!

I've seen worse, but I'd rather have the Scan, Vifa, Alpair. I see nothing that would make me inclined to spend 600 round, fat, juicy ones on it, even if it was still available, which it isn't. I see the measures are 2v, unknown smoothing. In T/S terms, appears to be averagely average Mr. McAverage for a driver of this size.

everyone has opinions and a budget. silly to you is a no brainer to others and i do not understand the comment born into that world. its what you work for, have the things you want and need, great thing about America

Team America! F*** Yeah! lol
I really like the GRS 4FR-8. Wish it came in a 4 ohm version. Then again, I'm a value-kind-of-person.
