Nice! What chassis is this?
It’s one I got on eBay shipped from China, and I got a vfet nameplate made by a trophy shop.

I have a 2nd one of these chassis for a project that will come to life later this summer…

Update. I put a Slagle AVC in after the 2SK79 B1 buffer. It sounds fantastic!!!

If I ever do another AVC it will be the pre-wired version. It costs more and requires a taller chassis, but this wiring (and rewiring - long story) took a good bit of time.

This is a 28 step autoformer with a 24 position gold point switch. I ended up taking a linestage with gain and a stepped attenuator to figure out which taps to use on AVC. Worked like a champ.

Ende gut, alles gut!

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but I just discovered this and it looks like an incredible project.

I am going to propose maybe a slightly risky idea. Do you think the 2SK79s could work in a Mezmerize kind of circuit, with both positive and negative power voltages applied to cancel DC offset? Then we could do away with those 'fancy' caps entirely....

I hope one of our VFET veterans can chime in. I don't know much about these devices, and I certainly don't want to buy a set and burn them up!

I’ve not tried it, but I’m sure it could be attempted successfully. I just stuck with the B1 rev1 schematic because of the simple supply, and I didn’t mind a decent film cap in the single path. Ultimately, my favorite spot for the K79 has been in the basic SRPP circuit that’s a few pages back.

dont worry about sound good too ,I haved all no caps in series from phono to speaker ..Now I learning from Nelson that sound really good too, he use like a donut , my last two amps have 10Kuf gofigure!

Attached is my implementation of the B1 with 2SK79 instead of the 2SK170.
Hi Cody!
I tryed to draw a 2SK79 B1 board according to your schematics minus thermistor.
It is a concept experiment.
I made parts silkscreen to look like in original B1 and tryed to mimic B1 layout with hopes it emanate Papa vibes. ))
It went at least interesting..
