I just Received a Trace Elliot PA1200
Boards from a friend who has ripped them out
of his amp after blowing it
This Amp is a verry impressive Pa Amp and
I would like to Revive it!
the only problem is It uses 2SK135 & 2SJ50
Outputs and I can't find these anywhere
Are there equivalents that I can Use?
Here are Attached Pics

The UK based company Profusion sells there own brand of lateral mosfets (Exicon) and has equivalents for the 2SK135 and 2SJ50:
http://www.exicon.com
I have deal with Profusion in the past for small numbers and I can not recommend them highly enough.

Hi Marvellous
I asked a similar question some time ago. The Exicon parts seem to be about the closest youll get.
http://www.profusionplc.com/hitachi.htm
No idea where to get these in SA. I have tried without success.
One could always replace them with something significantly better, as the 2SK135 and 2SJ50 are pretty old. I dont remember if IR makes a IRFP240/9240 equivalent in a metal can package.
Any suggestions out there???
Cheers, Stuart

Mosfets
RS components still stock the 2SK135 and 2SJ50 although these are not made by Hitachi anymore. Hope this helps.

Hi diyman
Thanks. Didnt realise RS would have them. I dont tend to use RS as here in SA they are HMMMMM expensive.

I'll be happy to sell a couple of those Hitachi's. My are original and in it's original box. Very Hitachi in other words.

Have just Email you Preanders! Price?
Some one has just told me that I can use
2SJ162 2SK1058 as replacement?
is this true?
as these are not TO3

Those are not TO3 but fits if it's not too tight. The electrical properties are similar but not exact. The threshold voltage is higher for instance. In many places you can use them but in some designs you have to adjust a little, especially the bias arrangements.Marvellous said:Have just Email you Preanders! Price?

I don't understand what you mean?

do you mean they will work but will not give same power?
or they will work but wont get same quality?
or they might not work at all?
peranders got your email Thax!
I think to the power issue isn't very important if we talk decibels. A little different gm but lower Rdson will influnece but I don't know how much. The main thing is the bias.
About the dimensions, just check how TO3 plastic looks like.
The newer types you mention is slighty better so you won't get worse sound at least, don't think so
If you are going to use the pcb in the picture, notice that the traces are rather thing. To pairs can deliver 20-30 A so it's possible to burn these traces if you not have good current limiting or fuses.

Not necessarily but you have not so much over capacity in the pcb if we talk current. The pcb will work for normal use but hardly for "unnormal".Marvellous said:So you say 2SJ162 2SK1058 WILL Burn tracks?
why if the original output didn't burn tracks?
Marv, Try the Farnell distributors in South Africa. Ask for BUZ900 and BUZ905 those are Magntec TO3s, virtually identical to the Hits.

The 162 and 1058 would work fine, if you could make 'em fit. The Trace would run them on a lower bias than hifi gear. But find and buy the BUZ thingies.

just to make sure Thats BUZ900 & BUZ905
with nothing at the end!?
Thanks Found the BUZ900 & BUZ905
they R Expensive R1492
for 4Pairs!
while the 2SJ162 & 2SK1058 are R400
4Pairs!
now if I use the 2SJ & 2SK will the amp be as reliable
as the when Using the Expensive BUZ?

Re: Mosfets
Yes absolutely, it is Semelab/MagnaTec: 2SK135 and 2SJ50, characteristics are the same!
According to the update of Ray's Crescendo http://members.quicknet.nl/ra.vdsteen/crescendo_en.html there are also replacements: BUZ900 and BUZ905 the same manufacturer, but if the original transistors are made we will have more chance today to find components with modern manufacturing techniques.

Hello,
I need one each. Do you still have some and ho much to shop to Canada.
Cheers!
There's been 10 years since this thread has been active, so your odds seem pretty slim. I do have some, though they are used. PM me if interested.
