2sd588 and 2sb618A replacements for Pioneer 9500 II

Hello,
I am looking for replacement for the 2sd588 and 2sb618A bipolar transistors.
what is your opinion to replace them with: Mjl21193 / Mjl21194

What are the values I have to take into account when looking for a replacement.

The 2SD588/2SB618 transistors are "bat-wing" devices. I have been successfully replacing these with newer Onsemi NJW0281G/NJW0302G pairs in several Kenwood KA-3500 amplifiers. These are TO-3P devices with wider legs which needed one hole drilled per device centered above the original bat-wing mounting holes on the heatsink. Don't forget to use proper insulation for the mounting bolt!

In addition to the NJW0281G/NJW0302G pairs one can also use the more expensive MJL4281AG/MJL4302AG. These devices are TO-264 with insulated hole which makes fixing easier with no need to insulate the mounting bolt.

I described this in a thread at AudioKarma:

Hope this helps

Stay safe
