Hello all.

I have in my possession 2SC5200 & 2SA1943 by brand "ISC". There are also these transistors to proposed "Fenghua" and "Fairchild".
Have you an opinion on these brands and we can expect a réèl equivalent to "Toshiba"?

Thank you.

If they're not Toshiba, or Fairchild.. they're junk...
Note that if they are branded Toshiba, unless you are 100% sure you got them from an official dealer, they are highly likely to be fake.

If you REALLY want to be sure on them, break one apart and take a look at the die. Compare with the fake pictures on Rod Elliotts website

I thought that 2sa1943/c5200 were a Toshiba brand.
ISC means they are a copy. Good copy or bad copy requires extensive testing to find out.

Any Toshiba 2sa1943/c5200 bought via ebay and similar non traceable sources are almost certainly fakes. Don't touch them.

The problem is that bringing in components from USA to France is very complicated with customs (VAT, administrative fees, etc ...) and I have already had big unpleasant surprises.

I import very often components from Mouser US to France because local shops are closing one after the other.
They offer free Fedex shipping above 60$ and you get your package in 3-4 days.
I never had any problems with VAT or customs. I am not affiliated with Mouser.
Cheers,

Jacques

ISC parts are presumably what fakers base their clones on. I E they take ISC parts and rebrand as real Toshibas (or whatever other company they want, often even the wrong company such as branding Toshiba part numbers as NEC, etc).

ISC transistors are are all the same. If you google any old power transistor, you'll find an ISC datasheet, and that datasheet is the same for pretty much every power transistor you can find. Not a good sign.

The only company making 2SC5200 and 2SA1943 today is Fairchild, and those are obviously not the real parts either, not even branded as such, only marketed under that name. These are good clones, however.

I would agree that Fairchild (Now On-semi) make among the best and cheapest copies of 2SC5200/A1943 in both TO264 and TO3-P, as do Toshiba. They even do TO220 versions!
Check out FJL4215,4315 and FJA4213,4313. They also list direct copies as 2SC5200/A1943 but I haven't used them myself.

Toshiba China also make the TTC5200/A1943 versions which I believe are now the same 30% smaller die as the Japanese products. You can buy those through Farnell too but watch their pricing.

ISC product, in large packages at least, are somewhat unique, with part crinkle and glossy areas with recessed Logo that would be hard to sand off and re-brand as anything else. Their quality and consistency is excellent for standard BJTs but they don't offer the same performance as original unique types like Sanken LAPTs. They offer the same part number equivalents but they don't perform like LAPTs. At least the marking is clear and credible and we can identify it as genuine ISC product.

There are just so many manufacturers that produce copies of industry standards in China, and most refer their specification to the same Savant IC or similar generic Datasheets. Some parts are branded, and some just blanks that will likely be re-marked by sellers as any type/brand you like. Look at the wobbly laser etching now done with bad logos of ST micro, Fairchild, Natsemi, Burr-Brown, Motorola even!😀 Not even clever, more like dumb, ham-fisted copies and we have to be dumb to keep buying them, once we realise what type of goods the trader deals in.

I always get the "must be fakes" response when prices like this show up. Same thing with IRFP240's at $1.09ea. I will sacrifice one to the vise and crack it open to see. I am quite sure they are good though so a shame to kill it before it's time. Of all the perhaps 60 different sets of transistors I have bought on Ali - only once were they blatant fakes. For the nayssayers - I ask you to buy a set it's only a $12.50 risk but see how you like it. The link I have is the actual one I bought.
