It's not just that it was used around radio. The double-ended high-gain input transformer in wide-band (15kc) audio is sensitive to any added capacitance. Such as Miller's. The cross-caps will knock that way down.
I'm just giving Andy J a hard time, no offense meant. Its very obvious many of the builds on DIY are as much to look at as to listen to.
