Hey kenpeter,
Think you make to much guesswork now, as you don´t know the facts about unloaded voltages before and after unwinding on these specific transformers 😉.

The difference between loading parallelled 6B4G PP with 2,3k:8 compared to 3k:8 is substantial!

When hooking up your primaries it is well worth trying them in both directions. In all the cases which i have tried it made a substantial difference. The difference in interwinding capacitance meant that in one direction I was getting ringing out at about 70Khz which is very nasty. Turned round the other way and its totally gone. I also got better bass extension the second way.

One side of the winding is tight up against the core, the other is tight up against the secondary. Either theres leakage to the core (if so wheres it going), or there more likely interwinding capacitance to the secondary.

Whatever it is it make a big difference. Ultrasonic ringing ruins the whole sound as it creates intermodulation distortion lower down. Very fatiguing. Coupled with falling and distorted bass response and you have one ugly sounding amp.
Of course not all toroidals are wound in the same way so your experience may be different. It may account for why some people claim that some brands just aren't good for outputs.
