The US$-CAD$ exchange rate is 1.011 or 0.98 depending how you look at it. shipping isn't going to cost the equivalent of 37% per unit which is the increase cost of the motor from the original quote.
The price of the motor appears to have gone up from ~84 to 95.00+ shipping/taxes/fees and he said he would account for any differences in actual cost at the time of shipping. I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't see this course of action as being particularly out of line. It's a bit of a stretch to say the price went up 37% considering shipping/taxes/paypal fees weren't taken in consideration with the initial motor price quote.
Considering the price of a single motor, I think this is pretty reasonable for a high quality component. Wait 'till you price out a good bearing/platter, if you're building from scratch!

Peoples, don't forget that the original Motor price break was:
QTY Price
1 $140
5 $110
20 $95
50 $80
See the included quote extract.
I have only 32 motors on order from you guys, so the motor price is 95$. At the beginning I was guessing that we may reach 50$ as the first GB but this not the case. It seems there is no more interest for now and I cannot wiat for ever to reach 50 motors.
This is the major reason why I'm asking for this price. I cannot order directly from Maxon USA. I was told from them during the last GB to order from the Canadian distributor.
As for the price padding here some explanations. Don't forget I was there before and I know by experience what will be the end costs:
95$+ GST 5% = $99.75, but I'll pay the Canadian distributor in $CAN. I'll have to transfer the money from the PayPal account in U$ to my account in $CAN and PayPal exchange rate is always worst than the official rate (mean lower). So, I loose money there.
The big (and heavy) motors box will be ship directly from Maxon USA, to my door and there will be custom charges. There was the last time. So, I'll have also to pay for that.
Maxon is also using a courrier, like UPS or Purolator, and I'll have to pay a rather step shipping charge.
Then depending on the buyer location, there can be currency exchange rate added to the 3% Paypal fee. For example, on the current payments that I'm receiving I was charged for
175$, 5.38$ (3.07428%), other members 7.13$ (4.07%).
Sorry, but I can never know from member to member what is their PayPal account basic currency (even for US located members), even less to track these difference. Also note that the actual PayPal rate is not really 3.0% but 3.07428%. It may not seem that much but these differences but can account for hundred of dollars on 4-5K$ group buy account.
All these can easily account for the 110$ for the motor. I know, I had
exactly the same experience during the last GB.
The big difference in price is really 95$ instead of 80$ that you thought to be the price.
During the last GB, I asked for the exact calculated price, but then I had to ask for final cost correction from 15-25$ in average to cover for all the charges I incurred.
This time I prefer to ask for price with some padding, So I don't have to pay hundreds and hundreds of extra costs from my own pocket, and have to justify after the fact with tiny little price corrections here and there. To track all this was really time consuming, a real nightmare.
In the end, all this will come together. Shipping charges, Express Air mail can cost easily 12-15$ per kit, so the 10-15$ you paid extra will be the final shipping cost, that I won't charge you at the end. I keep an accurate track of all the payments and I ask only for the actual costs and shipping charges. Ask any of the previous GB members and you'll see I'm an honest guy. If there is any extra money left at the end, I'll give back to you. During the last GB, we had problem with the pulleys. Greg made replacement pulleys for free, and I distributed them (more than 50 shipping) all for free as well. I think we proved that we give a good service.
This GB is a lot of work, and need a lot of organization to make sure everything is order correctly, distributed, and shipped to the correct address, etc. You know I was there before and I know what I'm talking about.
The only way to get better price is to get a minimum of 50 motors, but not more than 50 PCB's (new PCB order batch is 30 or 50 or more). I already have order for incomplete order with just one motor or one PCB, so both Motor and PCB quantity won't match anyway. 50 motors seem impossible to reach for this GB unless I wait for months and then peoples will loose interest and the GB may well fail. So I prefer to close it now at about 30.
Hope it makes thing clearer.

Just been back from a computer crash. Restored everything and will update the payments list tomorrow.
nicoch46 to answer your question, this controller/pulley need a 12 inches platter to work. If your turntable uses a smaller driver sub-platter (like LP12), the custom pulley will not work. I think the Rega uses indeed such a smaller drive sub-platter, so the custom pulley would need to be different. The controller can stay the same, just the pulley need to be modify. Check the controller documentation, FAQ section. The optimal pulley/platter ratio is mentioned there and how to calculate it.
From Mark Kelly comments:
"The no-load voltage for the motor needs to be far enough below that for the motor to be able to develop enough torque to drive the platter.
Accordingly, I prefer a no-load voltage of 7.5 volts or less, the 110191 runs at 900rpm (x 20 for 45).
The absolute limit is 9V which is 1080RPM hence x 24.
"What pulley is needed
A: Mark Kelly said: "For the 110191 motor with the 12V controller the pulley to platter step up ratio MUST NOT be greater than 24:1
if you wish to include 45rpm" If using platter drive that is. Platters usually being 300mm?
That means that with the 12volt supply a pulley should be 13mm wide."
Bye.

Algar,
Sorry for not getting payment to you last week. I was waiting for an invoice, but I guess you would just prefer us to send payment. I will get the $175 to you in the comming week.

The Rega platter diameter (about 100mm) combined with a 17mm pulley will mean the motor runs at about 200RPM (33) and 270 RPM (45), requiring voltages of about 1.7V and 2.3V respectively. This is below the optimal range for the controller but it will work.
I believe Maxon have indicated that the motor was not designed to be run continuously at such slow speeds. I can only guess this is a lubrication issue so maybe if you do you could compensate by reducing the lubrication interval for the motor or use a thicker oil.

Payments are progressing fine. Since I received more than I missed, here the missing ones:
Antonn, Giordano, MtFlyCaster, Neil_Kaye, PixelPlay, Robmil, Toaster, Whubbard, WireWiggler and Yioyos
I'll order the PCB's this week but wait for the complete payments to order the motors.
Bye.

Update.
Will order PCB tomorrow.
Greg cannot do the pulleys before he return from his holidays, after July 21st.
Motors delivery is 3-5 wks, closer to 3 weeks the last time I ordered
Received Payments from Greg Nuspel, Whubbard, WireWiggler. Thanks.

I'm still missing a few buyers, but I fell confident I can sell all the 30 kits. So, I'll probably place an order for the motors this week as well since the delivery is so long for them. PCB delivery is 7 working days.
