Plot is coming soon. I guess it will go down to 25Hz-28Hz in room
response.
😀
Regards.
That 6.8 sounds like an excellent candidate for a svelte 3 way with the extremis mounted on the side of the cabinet!
Personally, I don't see a reason to go 3-way with Extremis because it is capable of reproducing very nice mids.
Crossed between 2.5kHz and 3kHz with good
tweeter, excellent results.

Have a look at the RAW-HT3: http://www.rawacoustics.com/
sasha, wow, very nice!
Would you mind sharing some info on how they sound. You say close to your electros, which are those? Can you compare them to any commercial speakers?
Thanks.

Very interesting! I wonder if any of the parts express cabs fit their baffles...

Thanks Loftprojection,
Well, they sound good but "almost good as my electrostats" that is overstatement from my part.
Really, I am very happy with sound and I think it will be even better after I am done with tweaking(crossover point, slope, attenuation etc.)
Sorry, I can't compare it to commercial designs because You need to have speaker in your home for at least couple of days to make judgment regarding sound quality.
More info on my electrostats You can find here: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=51354

No not a single baffle fits the PE cabinets, as we use a 7" width baffle on our designs.
The HT3 hits low enough that some have picked them over smaller sets with a sub.
As in room of 25hz is enough for most how have had a chance to listen to them.
Al😉

Ouf Sasha, those electrostats are a beauty! If they sound as good as they look I can understand that saying they are almost equal to your new 6.8/Seas was an overstatement!!!
I was intrigued by the sound characteristics of your 6.8/Seas because I'm currently contemplating the idea of building something and thought your choice of drivers was interesting. My current selection will be a Peerless HDS182 with Vifa XT25 design (clone of Meadowlark Kestrel2).
Thanks for your feedback.

I don't know about HDS182. It has too high Fs of 45Hz so, You will need sub with that combo.
After all price difference is no too big for extended mids and more than double X-max.
Vifa for all I heard, requires high crossover point and I don't think HDS182 can go that high.
Vifa looks good and in my next project I will use Extremis/Vifa.
Why not use latest technology?

Thanks for the comments Sasha. I use these specific drivers because it is essentially a clone of the Meadowlark Kestrel2 that I'm building and this is the exact drivers they are using with a 1st order Xover and a TL cabinet. I've heard these speakers in a shop and they sure sound very nice. I don't have the confidence to build from scratch yet, I prefer copying something that is proven good! haha
From the info I've been able to gather, it seems like the xover would be at 2.8 and it is 1st order only. It's a front ported transmission line and I have a photo of the inside so I should be able to do something not so bad. I have a friend who is going to help me with the xover because I have no experience!
Sasha,
Congrats on the great design! Looks like it turned out quite nice, and your woodworking is superb.
Have you tried combining your electrostats with the Extremis? Try the Extremis on an open baffle, with some EQ to compensate for the dipole roll-off; in my experience they mate VERY well with electrostatic panels when used this way, and allow extension down to 80 Hz with just a 12" wide baffle.

Thank You Dan for kind words,
Firs, I must complement You for excellent drivers Adire makes and especially for fabulous Extremis 6.8.
Your suggestion regarding open bafle is interesting and I will try it.
But first I have something else on my mind, something that is never seen before at least not that I know of.
It is going to be small isobaric 12L box with two Extremis per side (of course) and Vifa ring radiator on top.
Specs. will be something like: in room response 25Hz to 40kHz, crossed at 2.5k-3.5k probably first order, power handling 200W RMS and 600W peak and all that in small 12L vented box. It will have unsurpassed WAF. No one will believe that there is no subwoofer when it plays.
All that is now possible thanks to amazing Extremis.
I already have veneer on mind. It is going to be
English burl, not sure what kind of burl but it is stunning.
Also very expensive , but project like this deserves it.
As soon as I have money for the drivers, I will post update on the progress and final results together with listening impressions when done.
Best regards.

That sounds a lot like a Totem Mani-2, except different drivers of course (and different price ;~). Was that your inspiration? I like the Mani-2's a lot. http://www.stereophile.com/loudspeakerreviews/462/index.html
No, Mani-2 wasn't inspiration.
I mean, isobaric is known principle bu executed with Extremis
will be something new. Dynaudio in Mani-2 has higher Fs about 10Hz
which is not little difference and also only half of the X-max and power handling of the Extremis.
So in that regard I expect my design to be"little monster" but musical one too.

How fast/detailed is the Extremis? I'm also interested in it, but with a ribbon tweeter - but only if it's pretty fast. Or maybe I could do (2) Extremis, (1) Peerless 830883, (1) tweeter that I haven't yet decided on. Damn, the longer I put off building a speaker, the more I find myself wanting to spend. and I can't even decide on how many speakers I want to use.... Edit to note: only considering 830883 (not even set on that) if need be, would like to do just (2) Extremis and a tweeter if possible.
i realize im late, but...
wow. that finish is amazing. turns me on fer sure. lol. GREAT WORK! (im jelous)
