Keep the sub as a separate item from the desk to reduce resonances into the desk and more boxes but each being lighter and smaller overall allowing for easier transport.
Use the Dayton SPA 250 plate amp which has a built in 1st order high pass filter at 120hz on the high level outputs. This will protect the left and right speakers. Build the left and right modules into sealed high q enclosure enclosures with a target f3 around 100hz……the 2nd order axoustic rolloff combined with the electric 1st order of the sub amp will give you the protection you need. The Dayton amp is class AB and has been tested to over 400watts on dynamic peaks…..it’s a long running plate that’s just gotten better and better over the years
Consider a used pair of KEF Q150 coax bookshelf speakers for your mains……harvest the drivers and crossovers and build them in to your desk. You’ll save $$$ here since on the used market, cabinet damage won’t matter and the weak point of the Q150 was the cheap enclosure……use these drivers in a well built resonant free enclosure and you’ve got top tier performance

Likely a bad passive. I have never found these to work.

I agree. I recommend getting an Auralex SubDude, which will heavily reduce the bass from impacting the floor and improve the sound from the sub.Keep the sub as a separate item from the desk to reduce resonances into the desk and more boxes but each being lighter and smaller overall allowing for easier transport.
