hi guys.

well i havent put the 127s in anything yet,i wanted to be kinda sure where they were gonna go.

then i thought,,
"my center channel sux (polk low end model, maybe blown as well) ,maybe the (2) 127s i have would be ok if i put 'em in a box on top of the tv"...?

the thing is,, i dont understand all about how big to make the box and such.

i have a feeling they would sound nice, and maybe handle the power, but i dont know what size box nor exactly how to wire them up.

any help in this area ,, id be greatfull.

thanx alot ,
roy

Don't put both on the front baffle if they're going to be run full-range. You'll run into heavy lobing with increasing frequency, which will make for a very rough treble, that's also severely attenuated. Bipole, which is usually the best solution to using two FR drivers in one enclosure isn't really an option for a centre channel, so I'd probably either a) use just the one, b) use them for something else -additional surround or ambience channels perhaps, or c) stick both on the front baffle, one over the other, run one of the drivers full-range, and roll the other off with a filter above, oh, say 1KHz. That should work.

"or c) stick both on the front baffle, one over the other"

do you mean both in a verticle line? one above the other?

also "and roll the other off with a filter above, oh, say 1KHz."

ive read about this roll off,,but i have no idea where to start in doing it. all i kno/think i know is i have to solder some "thing" in the wire of the driver.
the box i can kinda get done in a decent kinda way.
but once i get past the "full" single driver mode
(meaning nothing but the wire exiting the back of the box to the amp) i not only am stuck, but im totaly lost as to what to do next.

oh i can follow what you guys mean most of the time,,i just dont
know enough to buy the part and then put it in.

if youd be so kind ,,, could you give me a step by step, written as if it was for a modestly bright 6YO??

well thanx for the feed back.

by the way,, if it was to sound ok and turn out good, would it make a good center??

thanx again,

roy

To an extent. It means don't put both drivers on the same panel, period, if they are going to be run full range, unless you have a low-pass filter attached to one. This will attenuate the high frequencies from this driver (which are the problem). I'm not particularly well versed in filter and crossover design; there's other here who can give you better advice regarding the component values etc. if you wanted to take this approach. Me, I'd just use a single driver for the centre channel; as it's usually dialogue, the point source will be very useful. How large a box you use will depend on if you decide to go with one or two driver in it.

thanx again scott.

you said
"How large a box you use will depend on if you decide to go with one or two driver in it."

so maybe if i went with a slightly larger box,but with one driver in it,maybe hmmmmmm

i just dont want it to be to whimpy is all.
and id rather not build it if theres no logical way it could possibly come out sounding good.

well, thanx scott, and hopefully a few others will chime in and offer me some options.

I use the FE127E in the small Fostex recommended BR box as a center channel in my HT system with very good results. I`ve already made 2 more for friends` systems, because they were so impressedwith the sound. One driver works fine, especially for old movies and mono sound tracks. And it is about as easy to build as it gets.

It is good on dialogue, and older movies and sound tracks that are in mono. I never feel the need for more bass or a bigger box. The subwoofer comes in at 100HZ and blends fine. I use FE206E`s in Fostex BLH as mains and FE166E`s in recommended BR boxes for rears.
