2.5 way floor standing speaker project

Hi everyone, I'm finalizing my new project and I wold like to have your opinion about the crossover.
The main idea in that project was to build high sensitive 2.5 way speaker with simple crossover (as much as possible). So the driver was chosen to match as much as possible with the idea and of course on reasonable price.
So the speaker is already served by crossover V01 from the picture and sound really good. The main concern in that configuration is the low resistance over 10kHz.
So I make some changes in V02 and I wold like your opinion about two of them.
Thank you in advance 🙂

Is it your intention to run the bass mid drivers full range essentially? One advice: use a higher order high pass for the tweeter or you will probably ruin it some day. Maybe study crossover topologies a bit better? Here is some basic info. Also learn about baffle step and it’s correction.

Thanks markbakk.
As I said I'm trying to keep everything as simple as possible.
I fully agree about the tweeter recommendation but for now I will keep it like that.
I have designed also 3way 4th order and it is amazing but the sensitivity drops wit more than 5dBa wich was not the idea.
The question is how bad is the resistance of 2.5 Ohm over 10kHz.
OK I didn't mentioned the amp - HK Citation 22 but due to neighbours presen it can't be pushed to the limits 🙂

I will assume then that your plots don't include baffle step, but this is OK.

With a 2.5 way, you'd normally set the top two up like normal without baffle step, ie flat, or here with a gentle slope..

Then you add the 0.5 way to give the baffle compensation..

You'll have to work on the crossover frequency and small details. I could have made the top two a dB or two less sensitive so the woofer could keep up.

Thanks Allen.
Yes there is a bit more work to do especially with the box.
At the moment crossovers are outside in order to play with them easily.
I will go through your design and will let you know. But at the moment I don't have at the table the coils for this design.
Thank you!

Did you buy the drivers already? If not, consider going for identical bass mid drivers. That definitely looks better. And there might be better options, like a Sica 6.5”. Plus: I definitely recommend an Augerpro waveguide on the SB tweeter.
Hi, I was checking your advise about Sica woofer and I'm wondering what is your consideration about your choice. In short, what makes it beter than Ciare HWG160?

OK clear.
My preferences was:
Rz 5.4 which is the same as ROSSO-6
Fs - 39 Hz
Weight 2.5 kg

In the description on the web page was stated copper coil winding which unfortunately defers from original tech sheet but it is to late for that.
Of course that are subjective points from my side. Big benefit of Sica is the coper coil and as you mentioned shorting ring. If I was asking before purchased them and have some opinions most probably Sica will be in my project 🙂.

In fact CCAW is just fine for driver coils, less weight. As for the Rdc-value, I don’t see the advantage, since you’re not using series circuits (you actually would be wise to pick two same drivers for that).
The Sica certainly isn’t the only alternative though. I can think of quite a few good 6,5” bass drivers.

Yes. There are a lot of options. In fact the idea of the project required two different drivers 🙂 . I designed the box especially for that project and they are two cambers - closed for tweeter + upper woofer and TL for lower woofer. I know it is a bit strange for 2.5 but in fact they behave quite good!
Following your notice about the tweeter Xover, I checked the situation of my 1st order 5000 Hz . So at Fs 750 Hz the power was -10dB and -30 dB at 300Hz. So i add the notch filter to the tweeter and the slope become very smoot with -20 dB at 750 Hz and -40 dB at 300 Hz, which I'm considering as safe enough.
At the end everything is about a joy of building something and listening preferences.

Here is my Frankenstein (the right one).
