Hi,
Im planning to build a 1x10" cabinet and could really need some help with speaker selection. It is for home use / practicing mainly so excessive power handling isnt necessary.
I'm looking for a speaker that can go pretty low without sounding muddy, and it should also sound good with lots of gain and distortion (modern metal/death metal type of tone)
I typically have my guitar tuned in C and sometimes B, so the cabinet needs good/decent response all the way down to ~60 Hz.
So far I've looked at some Eminence speakers, Delta Demon and Ragin Cajun seems to be useful for the lows, but I hove no idea about other tonal characteristics of these.
Any ideas and suggestions?

Hi. I'm no expert, but I've built a few cabinets with 10", 12", and 15" guitar drivers from Jensen and it seems to me that when it comes to bottom oomph the cabinet itself is more important than the driver. Details such as open or closed back, or a combination, the size of the baffle, and placement of the cab in the room is important factors for optimum bass respons.
So it is very difficult for anyone to recommend a driver that you will like.
The 10" and 12" drivers I've used have fs around 100Hz and they all seem to perform well lower than this. At least with a standard tuned guitar and comparing to the 15" bass guitar cab.
When looking for guitar drivers I would find out how it breaks up in the high end and select one that suits you (does it bite or is it mellow) , and then design the cabinet with the low end in mind.
