1st Sub post!!! What would suit my room?

I heard it's 0.33.

Anyway, with (often sub-) 20Hz Fs, methinks the F3 can afford to be a little above.

lol well i knew it was somewhere around the mid point 3's

Further to checking out possible candidates ive had a fiddle on WinISD beta.

I found several 8 and 10 inch woofers, (sub and not so sub).

Some of the alignments are not ideal, but ive tried to keep output to within +1.5 dB and -3 dB, down through the bass output, until as low as feasible. Some of the drivers are in the max flat that WinISD defaults to, and others not. The design max volume is 80 litres, and all but one alignment floows this rule.

The Scan 23W looks interesting, whether in vented or sealed alignments.

The GF200 is a driver ive liked for some time, but it is a little awkward to get the best of. Id really like to try resistive loading of the 2nd coil, since the parallel hook up specs indicate a slightly higher Qts than the series. Trouble being the 4 Ohm voice coils and resulting 2 ohm load, so in the sim I have used the single coil specs and series wired specs.

The 2 green plots that extend to F3 at ~18Hz (dark green and light green), are the 23W in 70litre vented Fp = 18Hz(dark green), and the GF200 single coil in 180 Litres (rule breaking light green plot)

The dark blue plot shows the 23W in a 36litre sealed box, incredibly the F3 is ~32 Hz. Possibly this one could be the best option of all? Yeah, if only the efficiency was better than 82 dB, also a bugger is the 4 ohm impedance, or else multiples would be feasible to increase the efficiency. Seems that Im again at an impass lol

mind u, with the right wideband driver, or as an active sub to fit with small bookshelves, the sensitivity is less important i guess. Pity the scanspeak 23W is costly.a thats most definitely my favourite, for either sealed or vented box, for 'home' listening levels.

So the shortlist (despite some reservation) is probably:

SB Acoustics SB29NRX75-6 (similar price to the Visaton TIW200 and 250XS I initially considered)

Visaton TIW250XS (around Euro 150)

Seas L26RFX/P 10 inch woofer (More of a woofer really. Im not actually so sure about this one now....may just be too large a box. but again similar or cheaper than the Visaton)

Scan Speak 23W/4557T00 (almost double the price of the Visaton, only 82 dB/W. I guess I could live with that if the price was reasonable, but it isnt. to get up to 85dB, id have to parallel series connect 4 drivers.....)

Peerless 830668 (More of a woofer, but could perform well in a sealed box, cheapest/best value).
