It has been a minute since my last post, and I know I am probably kind of annoying with my mention of sells at every turn. But I just wanted to share some pictures and stuff later on today of a stereo I picked up yesterday. It's a 1968 Zenith, owned by an old couple who barely used it and kept the documentation. I am selling it, but I thought it would be nice to share this nice old work with all of you.
The 2G tonearm is amazing. All I need to do is replace a spring that was made weak from be pulled taut and still for years, and wash up the old controls. I have pulled the receiver and all the guts. If any one is interested in buying. I will be selling the speakers, receiver, and turntable on eBay.
I wish I could keep this beauty, but I have things to pay for, like an education.
My future turntable is a sweet old Bogen that came from a college PA cart I scored for free from the University of Virginia. I'll post about that restoration when time and circumstance allow.
I have also been thinking about disassembling the cabinet of this old Zenith and selling it for reassembly. Does anyone have any tips on how to do this or whether it can be done. I have danced with the prospect before, but hasty ways got me in trouble and I found that a lot of glue was used. If I could confirm that these old cabinets could be properly taken apart, piece-by-piece, then I would have three or four more to give such a treatment. My favorite cabinet in possession is that of an Admiral from the 50's for which I have the matching stereo speaker cabinet that is to sit beside it. That stereo has some of the nicest speakers, they were made by a company called Cinaudagraph that made speakers for the military.
Well, there is a lot of work to be done. I'll do my best to keep everyone updated, and any advice or encouragement would be a blessing!
