And this just in! I located the instruction manual. The controls do indeed work as intended. Bass control does not affect mic! So, it appears this has not been rewired, and the schematic may have had unpublished revisions, as Boobtube suggests.
Guess we had it figured out all along!

Hey, I overlooked that you're in Minn! YOU get way colder winters than I do up here. Yeah, I love the detective work, especially with the internet. I remember as a kid trying to get info by asking every one I knew or sifting through complex electronics books. Lordy! Now, a few clicks and there it is. Too bad there are so many criminals on the net. It really is the ultimate encyclopedia (save for the fact that anyone, regardless of experience, can post anything anytime; thank the high heavens when that original documentation can be unearthed).
